Magical Autumn Equinox 2014

Posted by: | Comments (0)

The Autumn Equinox is upon us night and day will be almost equal in length as we begin to transition into fall.  Feng Shui for fall means we move fro m the fire element, the most yang time of year, to the water element of autumn, the slow, deep and inward energy of the most Yin time of year. These elements are symbolic of the forces at work within the universe-and therefore within our minds and bodies, as well as the seasons. Are you and your home ready for this transition?

When we consciously align our homes and ourselves with the cycles of nature, we find more harmony and balance in our lives for there is a rhythm to everything in life. There is a time for turning outwards and growing, and a time for retreating inward and processing, which is what fall invites us to do. Just as nature goes through its cycles of change, so do our homes right along with us.

In the fall, nature prepares to shed her leaves and let go of the past. In our last newsletter, we talked about the importance and the benefits of clearing clutter.  If you haven’t yet had a chance to start clearing your clutter yet, this is a wonderful time to start a new de-cluttering project.

Once your closet is clear and as you shift into your fall wardrobe, make sure it is not comprised only of dark colors. Add passion and excitement to your wardrobe and your life with the rich colors of autumn such as red, yellow and burgundy. These hues possess a stimulating Chi and uplift your mood.

Just as nature’s palette starts moving towards rich warm autumn tones, so should the palette of your home. This can be accomplished easily by switching pillows or throws and will make your home feel welcoming during the next few months. Adding curtains will add new a new decorative touch and also insulate the window area. Pay special attention to adding warm colors to your bedroom and bathroom so they don’t feel cold.

Make sure there is no stagnant energy in the corners of your home. This kind of energy tends to gather and get trapped in empty dark corners. Plants, artwork, and floor lamps can improve the energy in these places and ensure that it stays gently flowing through your home.

Invite the radiant light of the sun inside. Simply open the curtains and blinds. Sunlight (the best source of Vitamin D in the universe) provides many natural health benefits.

Cleansing the energy in your home and honoring the change of seasons connects you more deeply to yourself and to the natural world around you. Use a burning stick of sage or light candles to encourage any negative energy to burn away. Ring bells or raise your voice in song to invite a fresh flow of healing and inspiration into your home.

And as always, continue to recycle and love our beautiful earth.

Feng Shui and Chinese Medicine

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Classical Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed in China more than 4,000 years ago. It shares philosophical roots with

Feng Shui creates harmony by connecting the seen and the unseen. It is a tool to examine the cycles of the stars, sun and seasons, using these explorations to support the vital connection of body, mind and soul to its environment. Feng Shui can be applied to any microcosm or macrocosm of our lives.  A small space such as a bedroom or an entire city can be designed and built according to these principles.   Acupuncture. Both are complex bodies of knowledge dealing with the movement of energy; Feng Shui reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for the people inhabiting it.  Just as needles are used in Acupuncture to treat the energy patterns of the body to improve the flow of energy and therefore your health, classical Feng Shui uses items made of the Five Elements: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire to balance the invisible energies in your environment. Bringing the elements into our space also helps us reconnect with the natural order of things.

“Feng” means “Wind” and “Shui” means “Water.” In its simplest form Feng Shui aids in choosing the best placement for a home. Picking the proper site will ensure happiness by alleviating  problems such as excessive drafts or floods.  The ideal site for a home is like an arm chair.  The back and sides of the chair protect us form the wind, though a breeze on a warm day can feel wonderful and cooling. However when wind is powerful it can blow an entire village down.  Being close to water has been historically essential for survival; we drink it, clean with it, and being far from it can make life difficult if not impossible.  However, when water is too strong, it can creates the destruction of floods and tsunamis.  Living in a space with easy access to water, yet protection from it, will make a home less susceptible to disasters and provide an easier more graceful life.

As we know in both Western science and Eastern philosophy, everything is made up of energy. The theory behind Chinese medicine is that a living human body is imbued with chi (energy) which is fundamental for its healthy functioning. Feng Shui is based on the same belief.

Chi is the animating life force that is everywhere; it permeates all people, our homes and  physical surroundings.  Feng Shui illuminates this hidden force of chi and how the environment can affect us, both positively, and negatively.

On average, we spend eighty percent of our time indoors. When we walk into an environment that has good Feng Shui, we feel embraced and at peace.  We feel connected with our self, our body, our surroundings and the people within that environment. We feel connected with the natural elements, supported in all that we do. We feel that no matter what is happening in the outside world, when we step inside our front door, everything is okay. We are home. We are safe. And we are free to feel our emotions. How a place feels will deeply affect people’s responses at both conscious and unconscious levels.

A home with good Feng Shui feels in balance.  Life flows more smoothly, easily and brings you more peace. It raises the vibration by balancing the energy. It serves you and is organized exactly in the best way for you and your family to thrive—not just how you think it should be set up and decorated, but in a way that makes you love how it feels and puts a smile on your face.  Feng Shui is only used for the highest good in all situations.

For example a house that has been in multiple modern design magazines and photographs very well, may feel cold and austere, like a hospital or jail that does not support the owner in feeling relaxed or welcomed in their own home.

Chinese medicine has served its people well for thousands of years, succeeding in maintaining health, preventing and reducing illness in the Chinese and other adherents. Traditionally a Chinese doctor was paid to maintain their clients’ overall health and to prevent illness. It was expected that all clients of traditional Chinese doctors would incorporate all eight limbs of Chinese Medicine into their lives: Acupuncture, Herbology, Bodywork, Nutrition, I-Ching Astrology, Feng Shui, Exercise and Meditation. The principles governing all eight limbs are considered to be universal and have an intimate connection. These principles are based on the interactive nature of yin and yang, the dynamism of the five elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal, and perceiving and accessing Qi (chi) quality and flow.

The Tao Te Ching also suggests using Feng Shui to maintain balance and well being in your life. Interestingly enough, Feng Shui is the only one of the eight limbs of Chinese Medicine that is not of the physical body but of the environment. The truth is that if we experience balancing in our physical body with acupuncture and herbs yet step into homes that are chaotic or messy, this will throw us back out of balance. Instead, having a home that is calm and peaceful will help us to rest, relax, and restore our vital energies.

When analyzing the energy blueprint of a home using Feng Shui principles we examine time and space. We read the building from the year it was built, to the direction and the exact degrees it sits and faces. We look at the surrounding areas such as the location of mountains and water, the proximity of freeways, graveyards, and so on. We then use calculations to arrive at a detailed analysis of the quality of Qi, yin/yang and the five elements. From this analysis we decide how to bring the building and residents back into harmony. In Chinese Medicine the analysis of the physical body involves checking the pulse, looking at the tongue reading the energy of the person. Again using the principles of Qi, yin/yang and the five elements.

The intention of Chinese Medicine and Feng Shui is the same, to bring good chi flow through the person’s home and body. Feng Shui teaches that your home is merely an outward reflection of what is happening on inside. It then uses the same principles of adjusting the quality and quantity of Chi, balancing yin and yang, and using the five elements to bring the person and home back into health and harmony.

The following are examples of how the home is an external manifestation of what is going on in the inside

•              Leaking faucets waste energy, and suggest abundance is flowing out of the home

•              Loose door handles suggest not having a firm grip on your health and life

•              Burnt out bulbs signal burning yourself out

•              Blocked drains reflect blocked emotions

•              Masks on all the walls usually mean someone is hiding something or who they

truly are

•              A cluttered home usually reflects being stuck in your life, and maybe having extra weight on your body, along with allergies and little energy.

When examining the home to bring it into balance, we look at what’s called the trigram map. These trigrams are associated with magnetic directions, the five elements and their corresponding colors, human personality types, body parts, related illnesses and numbers.

The Northwest Trigram is related to the main father/ husband in the home. It also has to do with the physical body parts of head and lungs, large intestines and the element of metal. If the person who lives in this house is experiencing breathing problems, we would immediately find out what is going on in this location of the home. Is there clutter? Is that direction or location of the building missing? Are there sharply pointed items in this location? Do the five elements need to be balanced here? All these things are blocking the chi flow or creating a negative energy and causing toxicity.

The Southwest location is related to the main woman of the home and the physical is reproductive organs and fertility. If a couple was trying to conceive and could not, we would again rebalance the energies, elements and creating a positive chi flow to this area. We can also do things according to the couple’s dates of birth, such as  put them in their best directions to sleep, eat and work. We would bring in elements, colors and symbolic items that will support fertility, and energy flow to start a family.

Both the body and buildings have meridian lines running through them. In Feng Shui we call them earth meridians and we use earth’s acupuncture to bring about balance in the environment. Again we would use the same remedies of five elements and three cycles of creative, reductive and destructive- to-creative energy flow in both temples. In Acupuncture practitioners burn moxa to get energy flowing, and in Feng Shui we use sage or palo santo.

In both Acupuncture and Feng Shui we view  energy flowing the same as we views the flow of water to promote a healthy flow in both home and body. A practitioner of Chinese Medicine might recommend a cleanse with herbs and certain foods to bring the body into balance, while in Feng Shui, the exact same suggestions are made to de-clutter the rooms, drawers, cupboards, and do a cleansing on the space.

Chinese medicine’s goal is to release Sha energy blockages in the human body because such blockages create disease; Feng Shui also releases Sha energy in the home to support sleep, digestion, and peace, qualities in the home environment that also promote health in the human body as well.

Clutter has a way of keeping us stuck in the past and not supporting us as we move forward in life. We hold onto things that provide us with a false sense of security instead of trusting that things will come to us as we need them. In fact, the less attached we are to things, the happier we are.

You will discover that after letting go of items you do not need, use or love, you open up to new possibilities. You will feel lighter, have more energy, and become aware of how all these items actually weighed you down.

Still, you may be concerned that if you let go of things, you will forget the occasion or the people who gave them to you. The truth is these memories will be forever in your heart.

One practice I invite you to do is to create an album or scrap book to hold photos of such items. You can date the photos and write a little note with the story behind the items. Then, instead of having an entire garage or house over packed with things you do not need, instead you will have a lovely little book to enjoy. After a time, you may even let go of the book. Such a process will unfold step by step.

Just because someone gave you something, you do not need to keep it. Perhaps the item was a gift or an inheritance. If you do not need, use or love the item, it becomes clutter. So pass it on and remember: What is the highest good for one is always for the highest good for another.

If you are keeping things “just in case,” that attitude may represent a feeling of lack in your life. Trust that everything comes to you exactly as you need it and stay light-filled instead of clutter-filled.

If you have items that are not serving you, let go, and see how everything will flow better in your life. You will have more time to spend with your loved ones instead of spending hours looking for things. You will feel more peaceful when your home looks and feels simpler, with less stuff.

When you think about clutter, think also about your wallet, for this is the place where abundance flows in. There needs to be space there as well as in your car’s glove compartment and the boot; these spaces relate to how you journey through life. Your computer desktop and email inbox are one of the forms of communication in the world. Check to see if your phone has contacts that you no longer need?

Other simple ways to keep clutter to a minimum involve checking in with yourself while shopping. Before buying, ask “Do I really need or love this?” Then, every time something new comes in the door, let something old go out.

Schedule time to clear the clutter as it will not clear itself. You can make the time fun by having friends over to help, by playing music and being certain that you are not angry while clearing. In that case, you may let go of things you did not mean to!

Prepare and organize by having bags or boxes ready—one each for recycling, charity, trash, and gifts for others, wherever you feel is the best place for these items to go.

Be truly honest with yourself as you clear. What are the reasons that you are keeping any item? Do you keep this just in case? Because you are going to fix it someday? Because you spent a lot of money on it? Because it was a gift? Because you inherited it? Because it is left over from a previous relationship? In fact, these are good reasons to let go of the items!

Please remember: “Rome was not built in a day.” Clutter does not have to be cleared all at once.

But when you do clear, let these questions become your special mantras.

Do I need, use or love it?

Am I keeping this for my highest good?

Because you spend more than 80 percent of your time indoors, your home must be supportive and nurturing. When you enter your home, you should feel your spirits rise, for your home is the outward expression of your inner life. Your home should reflect the life you want to live.

Do you want to attract love?

Then dress the home as if you are already in a loving relationship.

1. De-clutter

The first step in Feng Shui is always to make your home clutter-free. To attract love, you should get rid of anything from past relationships—gifts, photos, love letters, anything with an old love’s energy on it. Otherwise you are holding on to that person. Let him or her go to free up your life for love.

2. Clear Out

Create an open space in your closet for a future partner’s things. Add eight empty hangers to say “I am welcoming you into my life. I have space and time for you.” Make room in your drawers, too, creating equal space for your belongings and your partner’s. Give unwanted items to someone who needs them, or to a charity, or to a recycling center, always honoring the earth as you decide where such things to go. Avoid giving clothing to friends, so you will be free of seeing your castaways and keeping that energy in your field.

3. Pair Up

Arrange bedroom items such as nightstands and lamps in pairs. Display artwork that suggests romance and intimacy. Anything that does not serve the bedroom’s function of offering rest and romance should be removed; this includes photos of friends and family.

4. Like with Like

Within those pairs, organize items of similar size; if one lamp on a nightstand is much larger than another, this will create an imbalance in the relationship. Whatever you do on one side of a pair, do the same on the other, even with nightlights and plants.

5. Give Electronics the Boot

Your bedroom is the key to creating a sacred home that welcomes the love of your life. Televisions or exercise paraphernalia do not belong there, and electronic equipment should be placed in your office. Such items in the bedroom make relationships appear to be about hard work, not about rest and romance.

6. Color Matters

Earth tones are soothing and grounding for attracting relationships. Then you might add small accents in the red spectrum, such as pinks, maroon, or berry. Try to create a room that is neither too feminine or too masculine. Find a nice balance so both persons will feel welcomed and honored in the space.

7. Bed Position

Assure yourself that you are supported in life and love. Your bed should be positioned so there is enough space to walk on either side. You should not sleep in line with the door but should see the door from your bed. It is best not to sleep under a window or have the bathroom on the other side of the headboard.

8. Size Matters

The size of your mattress is important! If you are single with a single mattress, you will stay single, while a King size mattress doesn’t encourage romance either. Queen size is perfect for love. It is best not to sleep on a mattress from a previous relationship; if you must, give it a clearing with some sage. Remove clutter from under the bed so energy can flow freely.

9. Remember the Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is the gem for love, compassion, healing and romance. Place two pieces on your nightstand; carry the gem in your purse or car. As jewelry, allow your gem to rest on your heart.

The southwest corner of your home is the area for love. Place two pieces of rose quartz or two peonies—the flowers for love and romance—in that area of your home

10. Start with Yourself

Treat yourself lovingly every day and do not wait for someone else to. Use your best bedding of satin or silk and wear your best underwear and nightgowns. Light your candles; buy yourself flowers. To attract love, you need to be, first of all, completely loving with yourself. Be in that vibration of love in order to receive it.

Boost your vision board with the power of Feng Shui.

The Vision Board is an amazing tool to help align you with your deepest wishes and to inspire love to manifest in your life. You can create this powerful tool from images, words and the concepts of Feng Shui to join the power of Feng Shui with the Law of attraction into one dynamic board. Before you begin, sit quietly to meditate and envision your goals and dreams. Be truly compassionate, loving and authentic with yourself during the process of creating this sacred board. Even the process itself will bring clarity about your intentions and your self-knowledge.

What you’ll need

  • Cork board/poster board
  • Scissors
  • Magazines from travel, business, real estate, yoga
  • Glue/sticky tape
  • Computer and printer

Creating a vision board based on the Feng Shui principles

In Feng Shui, your home is divided into nine sectors called the Bagua Map. This map is an energy blueprint of your home and can be layered over your vision board to add more power to it. The map will boost the energy of each goal as you are directly relating it to the relevant life area. The areas of the Bagua begin at the top center section and move clockwise from there.

Creating your Bagua map

Top middle: Fame, recognition and how you share your light with the world

Upper right corner: Love/marriage, all relationships in your life

Mid right: Children, creativity, inner child and fertility

Lower right: Helpful people, travel, synchronicity

Lower middle: Career, life’s journey following your bliss

Lower left: Knowledge/self-cultivation, personal growth, meditative area, peace

Middle left hand: Family and community, deepening connection

Center: Health, unity and self-love

Upper Left corner: Wealth/prosperity and abundance

As you come out of your meditation, you are ready to create your board. Go through your magazines and tear out images that resonate with you. Your vision board might change as you are making it, so don’t become overly attached to certain images. Trust the divine process and know that what you attract is exactly what your soul needs for it evolution.

Amanda Collins

Add inspirational words specific to your goals. Words are very powerful; they turn ideas into action. The words should be written in the present tense and be positive. Have fun while creating your board. If specific pictures call to your imagination, search the Internet for the perfect image. When you feel deeply connected to your vision, your soul and your purpose, choose your favorite images and lay them on the board aligned with the your Bagua map. Eliminate any images that do not excite you. Add a beautiful, radiant picture of yourself to the center. As you create, feel your entire being open and align with your intentions.

Hang your vision board where you’ll see it everyday and allow the messages to go deeply into your subconscious. The wall across from your bed would be powerful placing as you’ll see your vision every morning and each night. Keep the board private from those entering your home, as you are planting seeds and until the roots are strong, it’s best to keep these tender shoots close to the heart and let the magic begin!

Feng Shui for Valentines and love

Creating a sacred Altar

Posted by: | Comments (0)

A personal altar invites us to reconnect with the deeper parts of ourselves. Here’s how to get started.
1. Find a space in your home (inside or outside) where you could fit a small to medium table that is unobtrusive to walking paths or other furniture.
2. Find a small to medium table to put in said space.
3. Find a nice tablecloth to cover said table.
4. Place items that represent what you are building an altar to on the table, which is now your altar.
5. If you use your altar for ceremony, it is a good idea to find a table or desk that has drawers in it to store extra candles and tools.
6. You can place it in the garden, meditation or yoga room; I do not recommend placing it in the bedroom. If it most go in the bedroom place a screen around it.
Whenever you get a new item of a magical nature, such as a crystal, a special feather, shell, a new magical tool, then it is appropriate to pop it on your altar for a while to absorb the energy which is focused there.
Oracle cards are energized by being on an altar, as well as any items related to magical workings.
Intention
first, set an intention. To set the energy of your altar, simply declare or write down your intention – “Abundance Altar” or “Healing Altar” etc. Your home altar is a personal power spot for you where you can continue to grow and deepen your relationship with the divine and yourself. Simply declare your space, this is MY SACRED SPACE. Ask yourself, “if this altar could be about anything, what would it be about?”
Altars have been created from the beginning of time – not only to ask for blessing and connect to the divine, but also to give thanks, make personal magic and to honor those who have come before. Creating an altar CONNECTS the physical world with the spiritual world. It is a physical place for dreams to live and a direct telephone line to the invisible forces that weave through one’s life. An altar grows and changes responding to your life. An altar reminds us to honor and give attention to our inner lives as we develop inner-authority.
• ask for guidance and strength
• offer gratitude, send out blessings
• pray for yourself and others
• meditate
Indoors – if you are planning to set up a formal indoor altar, find a spot in your home where you feel comfortable placing this sacred space. This may be in the corner of a room, on a coffee table or cupboard top or shelf. Be mindful that it should be kept higher if there are small children or animals in the home.
Outdoors – an outdoor altar can be set up on an inverted plant pot, a log, or on an old table top set upon a wooden box – whatever flat surface you can find of a size which suits you. Again be mindful of small children and animals when planning a permanent altar in the garden.
Place similar items on this as for the indoor altar, although you may decide to have more garden-style items, such as a cement statue of a Goddess.
Traveling altar – If you travel and like the comfort of having some of your sacred space with you, you can simply pack up a few ritual items in a small toiletry bag and then set them up in your motel room or other accommodation – items could include a small altar cloth, shell, pine cone, and candles.
An altar can be used in many ways:

to say thank you to the powers that be
to celebrate Mother Nature in all her guises
to seek spiritual wisdom
to honor the ancestors
to offer up struggles
to receive creative inspiration
to dialogue with the deeper part of her being
to honor her body
Keeping the Magic Alive
• Visiting your altar daily
• Changing it around weekly
• Dust and wipe down the area around your altar (and yes, under your altar!)
• change the fabric, pick something fresh and present tense
• pick fresh flowers for your altar (and clean water for the vase)
• maybe a new candle, in a different color than you normally choose
• Place objects and images that feel current. Start with the question: “What wants to be on my altar?”
Altar set-up and Ceremony:
These are helpful guidelines…to just get started, create what FEELS right for you. Blessings.

Open Sacred Space- I look at this step as CALLING in my helpers and Sacred Guardians to create a space of which only Love, Light and Truth are present for me to do my “work”. So, remember that ALL is a part of the Divine but we do want to be working in the light so this step is important. Even though we may be “clearing” things that are may be lower in vibration…we are giving them into the light of the Goddess so she can transform them. She has the power to take ALL and transmute it into Love and Light. Take the time to sit down with a piece of paper if you want to and write out what each direction means to you or take guidelines from my sheet you if you like.
1. Come into your space,
2. Light your candle,
3. Light your incense, or sage from the candle etc,
4. You can start start facing East as is common because it is the direction of beginnings. Then you follow moving sunwise or clockwise. Then after Sacred Space has been made you can sit down to clear yourself and let go of anything you may be holding on to that is less then Love and Light, any heaviness. Check your body…it tells you. Any place feel tight or heavy? Go there and breath it out, take a Black Obsidian and rub on that area while you breath, shout it out, cough it out, cry it out, MAKE NOISE! You may tone it out. WHATEVER FEELS RIGHT DO IT!!! (It can be done without the Obsidian as well.)
5. Then when you feel clear…and only then, as it may take 5 minutes or 50 minutes. This is your journey to learn how to clear and heal yourself!!! It is time!!!
Then when you are centered you focus on the stillness, go into meditation, or begin your prayers, asking etc. Any sacred work you want to undertake can begin at this time. WHEN YOU ARE CENTERED!
Sometimes it is just to clear and get re-centered other times you may need clarity for something, other times you may be needing guidance. You have the ability to get it directly from your higherself from the Divine. Or you may feeling some emotions. These are just needing to be acknowledged and want to be release!!!! Emotions are not meant to stay inside us. Go into a your sacred space or the bathroom…whatever, and let it out.
This is what ceremony, ritual or prayer time is for. (What ever you want to call it.) Clearing our STUFF, re-centering, giving thanks and asking as if it has already come to be, this is the key, giving thanks again!
This is also a good time to do a Tarot reading, a card reading, pull a card for your day etc…just ask simply “What do I need to do or know today”, and pull a card, read it, and set it on your altar. Contemplate it during your day. You will be surprised.

6.Then when you feel complete. Stand up(by the way…you don’t have to sit in lotus position or anything, if you it doesn’t work for you…be flexible for where your body is at and if you feel…sit, lay down, whatever! LISTEN to your needs, do not force.
When you are ready, close space. This can be done many ways. Start with the direction you opened with and then turn counterclockwise etc. Or you can just thank all the energies together as a group.
Also, if you leave your space and forget to close space and you are at work or driving down the road…DON’T freak out!!! There is no time or space so, just bring your awareness back to your space and thank everyone and imagine closing it. And it is done!

8.Blow out your candle and you are complete.
